I’ve been a San Diego area family & branding photographer for a decade. Every year I shoot around 200+ mini sessions, bringing me well over the 1000+ mini session mark. Last year alone I made $50k just on minis from August to November. When I launched my mini sessions this year I clicked publish and spent the entire day with my family while my phone blew up with bookings. I know what I’m talking about and I want to help you sell out just like me!
Mini Sessions Don't Have to be Complicated
When I started my business 10 years ago, I had to do everything manually. Literally everything. I would post my mini session and have to be on alert allll day long. Every message that came through meant sending them an updated time list and manually crossing them off as they booked. I would then send a contract to sign, an invoice to pay, add their name to a schedule, etc. etc. you get it. It was so. much. work. Not anymore!! We have so many resources as photographers that help us run mini sessions. Below are the tools I can't live without. I now click publish on my mini session email and go about my day while I make money and my schedule sells out!
Social Media Can Disappear
Social media is current and popular and amazing but it doesn't mean it's here to stay. Trends change, platforms change, but email is forever. You want to market direct to inboxes. I recommend sending 2-4 emails per month to keep your name in your clients' minds (monthly favorites, a gallery feature, availability update). I always send an email a week prior to prepare them minis are coming, a mini release email with some kind of coupon exclusive for just subscribers, and then a follow up email before that coupon expires.
You Don't Have to Manually Schedule Anymore
When I signed up for UseSession it quite literally changed my life. I can now set my availability, book without talking to anyone, offer a variety of booking options, create a mini session with a link for clients to go to and book direct,, and it all syncs with my google calendar. You can add sample photos, add on options like more shooting time, hair & makeup, coupon codes to discount sessions, follow up emails, and contracts. The possibilities are endless!
I used to send Dropbox links as galleries.
I cringe thinking about when I would send my clients a Dropbox link for them to choose their photos on. I can't. Now I send beautiful, modern galleries where my clients can create favorite lists, share the gallery, and order products directly from their gallery. It also allows you to add coupon codes for galleries too!!
You Don't Have to Do It All!
We don't like to do everything when it comes to business, and we don't all have the same strengths. I love making booking links and posting pretty photos but I hate sending emails. I pay someone to send my weekly emails and it's not as expensive as you'd think. Once a month I type an outline of emails I want to send out and they get to work making beautiful emails with great info for my clients. More importantly, they send out emails for me and I make money without doing ALL of the work. We are moms, and business owners, and friends, and we don't have to take it all on ourselves. You Don't Have to Look at Every Photo You Take
Culling is so boring and makes my eyes hurt. Luckily they have invented AI (which is scary but also amazing for things like culling). I click 2 buttons and the program delivers me the best images from my session. It cuts out weird faces, closed eyes, blurry images, and out of focus shots. I can then focus on just the best and ignore the 248902491290 images I took (overshooters unite!). Click that cull button and walk away!
